He noted that this year, President Rousseff will be the first woman in the history of the United Nations to open the General Assembly's annual high-level General Debate.
The Secretary-General also invited her to take a lead role at an international meeting on nuclear safety and security that he will convene in September.
He expressed appreciation for Brazil's efforts to promote regional integration and South-South cooperation, as well as for the President's leadership in the arena of disarmament.
The Secretary-General and the President also discussed the upcoming Rio+20 conference and Security Council reform.
He also conveyed the United Nations' gratitude to Brazil for its work in providing humanitarian assistance and its important role in peacekeeping, particularly in Haiti.
