World leaders are gathering this week at United Nations Headquarters in New York at a time of global upheaval. The UN Department of Global Communications hosted a series of events during UNGA from 23-27 September 2024, focusing on the transformation and solutions needed to accelerate action on the Sustainable Development Goals. SDG Media Zone live featured dynamic interviews with experts, influencers, activists, and media partners, showcasing actions and solutions in support of the SDGs.

People from around the world gathered at UN Headquarters to take part in the largest global meeting on issues that affect people with disabilities. Talk show host, actor and activist Nick Herd, who lives with Down syndrome, led the UN News blog team for coverage of the opening day of the 17th session of the Conference of States Parties (COSP17) to the game-changing Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, taking place from 11 to 13 June 2024.

As climate records are shattered, and emissions continue to rise, on World Environment Day, UN Secretary-General António Guterres delivered a pivotal speech at the American Museum of Natural History with opening remarks by UN Special Envoy Michael R. The sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) was held from 26 February to 1 March 2024 at the UNEP headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. This pivotal event, featuring Brazil and Portugal as vice-presidents, gathered global leaders to discuss and decide on critical environmental policies and initiatives. The 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) took place in Dubai, UAE, from 30 November to 12 December 2023.
