The following is a near-verbatim transcript of today\u2019s noon briefing by St\u00e9phane Dujarric, Spokesman for the Secretary-General.<\/p>\n

Can you confirm that the Secretary-General followed, today, a meeting on the Middle East and the question of Palestine and the Security Council?<\/p>\n

Spokesman<\/u>:\u00a0 No.<\/p>\n

Correspondent<\/u>:\u00a0 The meeting\u2026<\/p>\n

Spokesman<\/u>:\u00a0 He’s\u2026\u00a0 I mean, he knows what Mr. Mladenov said.\u00a0 You know, the Secretary-General does not attend these meetings.\u00a0 He is briefed\u2026\u00a0 he is represented by Mr. Mladenov.\u00a0 Whether he watched it on the webcast in his office or in residence, I don’t know, but he is\u2026\u00a0 Not only does he know what Mr. Mladenov was planning to say, because that does not come as a surprise to him, but, as always, he will get a recap of the meeting from his political staff.<\/p>\n

Correspondent<\/u>:\u00a0 I followed the meeting, Mr. St\u00e9phane.\u00a0 Mr. Mladenov mentioned this disagreement between the two parties in Israel and about annexing more land on 1\u00a0July.\u00a0 However, he just mentioned the old rhetoric of that \u2014 violation of international law and a unilateral decision which will jeopardize peace process and a two-State solution.<\/p>\n

But there was no clear-cut position that this should be stopped and condemned.\u00a0 The word, the \u201crejection\u201d of this plan, has not been expressed explicitly.<\/p>\n

Spokesman<\/u>:\u00a0 I\u2026\u00a0 well, you know, you and I will have to live with our differences on this.\u00a0 Even though the rhetoric, as you say, you consider it old, I think Mr. Mladenov could not have been more direct and clear as to the risks of what would happen if the annexation went through.<\/p>\n
