EUPOL COPPS organizes cybercrime trainings for Palestinian lawyers<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ramallah, 24<\/span>th<\/sup><\/span> October 2013 – EUPOL COPPS organized a cybercrime training for 25 Palestinian lawyers in Ramallah to give them the know-how needed to efficiently and effectively defend the rights of their clients in cybercrime cases.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

The training, which was held in cooperation with the Palestinian Bar Association (PBA) in Ramallah, tackled sensitive issues such as the types of cyber threats, the national and international legal framework applicable in cybercrime cases, the legal and jurisdictional challenges faced in these kind of criminal proceedings and the elements needed by defence counsel to defend the rights of their clients in courts.\n<\/p><\/div>\n

The participants engaged actively in the session and showed significant interest in getting more training courses in this field. <\/p><\/div>\n

The trainingwill be followed by similar sessions in Nablus and Hebron in the coming few weeks. <\/p><\/div>\n

The trainers are two PBA lawyers who visited the Academy of European Law (ERA) along with a PBA Councilman in April to be trained on cybercrime in a Train-the-Trainers scheme, and also to establish links between the PBA and the ERA which is a centre of excellence in this area.<\/p><\/div>\n

The coordination of this specific programme for PBA lawyers is part of a broader plan of EUPOL COPPS’s Rule of Law Section to enhance awareness and the capacity of the PA justice sector in cybercrime, including through holding specialization courses based on training course organized by the ERA in the coming months. <\/p><\/div>\n
