Ahead of the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit from 25-27 September, and to mark the seventieth anniversary of the United Nations, a 10-minute film introducing the sustainable development goals was projected onto the United Nations Headquarters last night.<\/p>\n

The projection brought to life each of the 17 goals,<\/a> to raise awareness about the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese projections on the sustainable development goals are a beacon to the world carrying an historic message from the United Nations – that the nations of the world are committed to ensuring lives of dignity for all people, and a healthy planet for future generations,\u201d said UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe global goals provide a unique opportunity to end poverty, reduce inequality, build peaceful societies and fix climate change. All nations and all citizens have a role to play to achieve these global goals. We hope that the message of the goals will reach everyone on the planet this week,\u201d he added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The projections have been developed in collaboration with the Global Goals campaign and 59 Productions. The filmed footage will be edited into a four-minute film to be shown at the Global Citizen Festival on 26 September and broadcast around the world as part of international coverage of the event.<\/p>\n

The Global Goals campaign<\/a> aims to reach 7 billion people in seven days with news of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n

More than 150 world leaders will participate in the Sustainable Development Summit to officially adopt the historic 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, a people-centred, universal, and transformative agenda that calls for action by all countries for all people over the next 15 years in five areas of critical importance: people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership.<\/p>\n

The new agenda, with 17 sustainable development goals at its core, recognizes that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with a plan that builds economic growth and addresses a range of social needs, while tackling climate change.<\/p>\n
