The Secretary-General met today in Havana, Cuba, with Nicolas Maduro Moros, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The Secretary-General commended Venezuela for its support to the Colombian peace process, saying that the example of Colombia sent a great message to the region and the world. He also thanked Venezuela for its important international role as current member of the Security Council and of the Human Rights Council, as well as Chair of the Committee on Decolonization (C24). The Secretary-General and President Maduro also discussed the political situation in Venezuela. The Secretary-General called for an inclusive dialogue between the Government and the opposition, stressing that the current socio-economic challenges faced by the country required unity of action from the political leaders and the people of Venezuela. The two leaders agreed on the importance of the Paris Agreement on climate change, the Secretary-General hoping for a speedy ratification by Venezuela. They also discussed the best way forward to resolve the border controversy between Venezuela and Guyana.

El Secretario General elogi贸 a Venezuela por su apoyo al proceso de paz en Colombia, y afirm贸 que el ejemplo Colombiano ha enviado un gran mensaje a la regi贸n y al mundo. El Secretario General tambi茅n agradeci贸 a Venezuela por el importante papel internacional que desarrolla como miembro actual del Consejo de Seguridad y el Consejo de Derechos Humanos, y por su rol como Presidente del Comit茅 Especial de Descolonizaci贸n (C24).
El Secretario General y el Presidente Maduro trataron igualmente la situaci贸n pol铆tica en Venezuela. El Secretario General llam贸 a que se estableciera un dialogo inclusivo entre el Gobierno y la oposici贸n, subrayando que los retos socio-econ贸micos que el pa铆s encara requieren unidad de acci贸n de parte del pueblo Venezolano y sus l铆deres pol铆ticos.
Los dos l铆deres se vieron de acuerdo con respecto a la importancia del Acuerdo de Par铆s sobre Cambio Clim谩tico. El Secretario General expres贸 su esperanza de ver una ratificaci贸n r谩pida del Acuerdo por Venezuela. Tambi茅n conversaron sobre la mejor manera de proceder en cuanto a la soluci贸n de la controversia lim铆trofe entre Venezuela y Guyana.
