There is growing recognition that resilience, social cohesion, trusted institutions, and economic opportunity are essential foundations of lasting security. As the factors shaping security become more complex and interconnected, the gap between traditional security measures and people’s lived experiences continues to widen.<\/p>\n

In response, the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security (UNTFHS), together with the Stockholm International É«¿âTV Research Institute (SIPRI), launched the Community of Practice (CoP) on Human Security<\/em> on 16 June 2026. The CoP provides a virtual global forum for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners to connect theory with practice, exchange knowledge, disseminate evidence, and advance the application of Human Security and other human-centred approaches across diverse contexts.<\/p>\n

The Community of Practice is designed to accelerate learning across institutions, sectors, and regions by connecting those developing policy with those implementing it on the ground. Through thematic sessions on pressing Human Security challenges, participants share practical experiences and emerging evidence, strengthening policy and practice while fostering partnerships that translate knowledge into collective action.<\/p>\n

21 JULY 2026: URBAN RESILIENCE<\/h2>\n

The second session of the Community of Practice on\u00a0<\/span>Human Security<\/span>\u00a0explored how human-<\/span>centred<\/span>\u00a0approaches can strengthen resilience in urban settings facing complex and interconnected risks. Drawing on experiences from Cabo Verde and Ukraine, speakers examined practical approaches to enhancing preparedness, protecting vulnerable populations, and building more resilient communities in the face of rapid urbanization, conflict, and other evolving challenges.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

16 JUNE 2026: CLIMATE AND ENVIRONMENTAL SECURITY<\/h2>\n

How can the Human Security approach help communities respond to climate and environmental risks?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The inaugural session of the Community of Practice explored this question through three case studies from Africa, Somalia, and the Pacific, illustrating how the Human Security approach strengthens resilience, supports climate mobility, and addresses the interconnected impacts of climate change, environmental degradation, conflict, and displacement.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
